What to wear to work is an endless game of questions, desires and trying to fit into the dress code while still keeping your own style and trying to create fashionable looks. There aren’t many options, I know, and usually the best option is a pair of formal pants, a blouse and a blazer. Another great alternative is a pantsuit - girl boss vibes included - whether you love black (like me and my soul), a navy or a bright colour. But one of my all-time favourite for work outfits will forever be the midi skirt. It’s a great choice for business wear outfits because they’re as versatile as it gets!
There are a few reasons why I love midi skirts to much as I do for my work outfits:
Perfect for day-turned-night looks
Easy to style according to your personal taste
You can push the business casual dress code limits
What to wear to work? A midi skirt is the answer!
The Casual Style
If you’re not much for dressing up fancy for work, opt for a casual style midi skirt. There are plenty of options here, so choose according to season & trend which one you’re going to wear now. Stripes, black & white / navy / dark green / bordeaux patterns or a simple brown, beige or black will look great. I’m loving the plated skirt for work, as it’s easy, comfortable and always stylish.
Sometimes dress codes are quite strict and then you’re left wondering, what now? Easy enough, there’s an answer for this too. Instead of playing around with different colours or patterns, experiment with new materials like suede, leather or wool for winter and silk, satin and soft cotton for summer. You’re guaranteed a classic business wear look!
Complete Your Look: wear it with a cami top, a pair of loafers and a shoulder bag.
The Fun Style
If you’re allowed to go a bit out of the box at work and wear whatever you like but you’d like to still keep it professional, try the fun style instead! Crazy prints, bright colours, embroidery or an asymmetrical skirt is your calling. Keep is elegant and office-approved with a fitted blouse or even a tucked-in tunic in a calm colour like black, white or grey.
Personally, I’m loving florals at any time of the year as I feel they instantly lift up my mood on a gloomy day. But a fun colour like a bright baby pink or a coloured blocked print could make my day. Another great choice of material would be denim; simply add a formal blouse to the mix for a balanced work look!
Complete Your Look: wear it with a dark blouse, a pair of brogues and a handbag.
The Formal Style
Let’s say you don’t have much of a wiggle room with your office’s dress code. Fine enough, don’t stress, there are plenty of possibilities for you too! Opt for a classic midi pencil skirt in calm tones as black, grey, white, beige or brown. Keep a monochrome colour scheme for appropriate work outfits - add a top, sweater or cardigan and mix things up with jewellery; a statement necklace will do wonders to spice up your neutral look.
Complete Your Look: wear it with a fitted blouse, a pair of ankle boots and a necklace.
