Prep for your business networking with Fashiola’s tips.
Business networking X smart casual
Going to an event you know people will be dressed quite casually? Then opt for the same style. Smart casual is your keyword here, and wearing something too overdressed can make a negative impression. Choose a business dress that you would wear to work, or try a pair of formal trousers and a blouse. A blazer will add a spark to your look, together with a pair of heeled loafers. Find your classic clutch, add a simple but elegant necklace and your business outfit is complete. Smart casual at its best!
Dress up with cocktail dresses
If your business networking event is taking place at a fancy hotel or restaurant, showing up in a casual look will make it look as if you’re not taking the event seriously and will not make a nice first impression. Your go-to item here is cocktail dresses. Choose one that flatters your figure, add a pair of high heels and a elegant necklace, choose a dressed up clutch and your sophisticated business outfit is complete. For cocktail dresses you're sure to love, check out Revolve. They've got some items you're sure to love wearing to such an event.
3 Tips for your business networking
If this is your first time going, you are probably quite nervous about the event. So, besides fashion advice, we wanted to equip you with some knowledge on how to behave and what is important during a business networking event:
Goals: before participating in the event, brainstorm with yourself and write down your goals for the networking. Is it making at least 2 new connections? Maybe you had a partner in the past you’d like to rekindle your business relationship with. Writing down your goals will help you focus on what you want to achieve.
Be able to articulate who you are and what you do. This one’s not only for business networking but in general, if you’re not able to describe who you are, what you do and who you do it for, you’ll get nowhere. (Tip: check out Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle).
Finally, follow through after the event. If you’ve made a connection, make sure to send an e-mail or call to ask for a meeting. After all, that’s what you went to the event for!
